Thesis-writing modules

The thesis-writing modules are a series of four courses totaling 10 ECTS points. They are taught during residential weeks, with online preparatory exercises and theory. These modules can be seen as a comprehensive guide to writing a research-based thesis.

Thesis modules guide students through this final task of their MBA program step by step, starting them thinking about the process and planning their work long before the deadline. The modules are practical and clear, including lots of real-life examples of what to do and what not to do. They are brief yet comprehensive, providing essential knowledge of research techniques and writing styles on a need-to-know basis.

Module 1: Defining your research problem

Appreciating the value of the thesis as part of the MBA
Conducting a SWOT analysis of the student as a researcher
Exploring interests and thinking through a thesis topic title and brief summary
Preparing a basic timetable for the thesis countdown.

Module 2: Developing your research approach

Developing an appropriate writing style
Following the thesis structure rules
Using a standard referencing system
Writing a good thesis proposal and presenting it orally.

Module 3: Producing your draft thesis

Conducting and writing up a literature review
Deciding on and implementing a research methodology
Planning and executing data collection
Analyzing and interpreting the data collected
Creating a reference list and continuing to build on this
Finalizing the first draft.

Module 4: Finalizing and defending your thesis

Understanding the examiners’ marking criteria
Presenting the research methodology
Writing-up the collected data and performing the analysis
Coming up with conclusions and developing meaningful recommendations
Presenting and defending the thesis orally.
